Gopher men’s basketball at Illinois postponed

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota men’s basketball game scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Illinois will be postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the Golden Gopher program.   Minnesota and Illinois, along with the Big Ten Conference, will work together to identify possible rescheduling dates. Gopher women’s rally falls short; lose to Illini 68-62

MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 5, 2023) – The University of Minnesota (9-14, 2-10 B1G) women’s basketball team came up short against RV/24 Illinois (18-6, 8-5 B1G) 68-62 on the road on Sunday afternoon at the State Farm Center. Alanna ‘Rose’ Micheaux secured her ninth double double of the season, registering 24 points and 11 boards while Mara Braun added 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Former Gopher Payton Willis signs with Golden State for NBA Summer League

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota alum Payton Willis has signed with the Golden State Warriors and will compete in the NBA Summer League. The Golden Gopher grad begins competition July 2-3 in the California Classic at the Chase Center, and continues action July 7-17 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  Willis had his best point-production season of his collegiate career en route to All-Big Ten honorable mention honors in 2021-22. MINNEAPOLIS – For the fifth time in the nine-year history of the Big Ten Conference, the University of Minnesota has claimed the Big Ten regular-season championship. An 8-0 win over Wisconsin in the regular-season finale was a moot point for the Maroon & Gold as the conference crown was locked up midway through the first period with Michigan’s second loss to Notre Dame on the weekend. 3rd ranked Gophers eliminated from NCAA Volleyball tourney

Omaha, Neb. – The University of Minnesota fell in a hard-fought, five set match to Pittsburgh, today in the NCAA Regional Semifinal. Minnesota won the first set, 25-21, fell 23-25 in the second, won the third 25-20, fell in the fourth 21-25 and the fifth, 11-15. With the loss, the Golden Gophers finished the season 16-3 and went 15-2 in the Big Ten. Pittsburgh advanced to its first-ever NCAA Regional Final and is 19-4 on the season. MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3 Gopher men’s hockey program closed out the regular-season with a 4-2 win over No. 7 Michigan on Saturday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci – becoming the first team in the country to win 20 games this season. Gophers’ Carr named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week

Redshirt junior Marcus Carr has been named the Co Big Ten Player of the Week, announced today by the conference office. It marks Carr’s first Big Ten weekly award of his career and the first honor this season for Minnesota. The last weekly award dates back to Gabe Kalscheur and Daniel Oturu during the 2019-20 season. Carr produced his third 30-plus game this season and second in a row Friday against Iowa.
