Wild go down with a whimper, lose 5-0 to Jets

The Minnesota Wild’s post season ended quickly and with not much push back as they were shut out by the Jets 5-0 Friday night in Winnipeg. With the victory, Winnipeg wins the series 4-1 ending Minnesota’s season. The shut out marked the second straight game that the Wild were held scoreless after being shut out 2-0 Tuesday night in St. Paul. It also marks the second straight season that Minnesota was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after having made the post season for the sixth straight year. The Winnipeg Jets got a pair of goals from Mark Scheifele including an empty netter in the final seconds as the Jets beat the Wild 2-0 in St. Paul Tuesday night. The win gives the Jets a 3-1 series lead. Game five will be on Friday in Winnipeg. Wild’s Staal named NHL #1 star

Minnesota Wild centerman Eric Staal was named the NHL’s #1 star of the week for games played last week. Staal paced the NHL with 4-3—7 in four games to propel the Wild (35-20-7, 77 points) to a perfect week and into third place in the Central Division. Staal collected one assist in a 5‑3 win over the New York Islanders Feb. 19, followed by one goal in a 4-2 victory against the New Jersey Devils Feb. 22.
