Lucia out as Gopher Hockey coach

University of Minnesota Athletics Director Mark Coyle and Head Coach Don Lucia today announced that Lucia will step down as Minnesota’s head men’s hockey coach, pending the approval of the University’s Board of Regents later this week. Coyle and Lucia have agreed that he will remain with Gopher Athletics as special assistant to the athletics director through June 30, 2019. “Gopher Hockey is not just a college hockey program, it’s a cultural institution in the state of Minnesota, built on more than 90 years of success and tradition. CLOUD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota men’s hockey team scored first against top-ranked St. Cloud State but could not capitalize on the early momentum, falling 5-2 at the National Hockey Center on Saturday night. Gophers Alum Scott Bell Named Assistant Men’s Hockey Coach

Gopher Hockey alum Scott Bell has returned to the University of Minnesota as an assistant coach for the  University of Minnesota Men’s hockey team, Gophers head coach Don Lucia announced on Monday.   A former Gophers captain, Bell has spent the last five seasons as an amateur scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins, helping the organization claim back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017.   “I am pleased to announce Scott Bell as our next assistant coach. Gopher Hockey beats Penn State

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota held the nation’s top offense to one goal and its lowest shot total of the season as the No. 7 Gopher Hockey program topped No. 4/6 Penn State 5-1 on Friday night at Mariucci Arena.   Rem Pitlick scored twice including the game winner while Tyler Sheehy added to his Big Ten-leading point total with a goal and two assists in the win – tying his career high for points.
