Gopher men’s hockey sweeps #2 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rem Pitlick’s 100th career point with Gopher Hockey proved useful as the junior forward set up the game-winning goal on Saturday night in a 4-3 win for Minnesota, completing the road sweep over No. 2/3 Ohio State. Minnesota (13-14-4 overall, 10-9-3-0 Big Ten) never trailed over the weekend, picking up goals from Scott Reedy, Nathan Burke, Brent Gates Jr. and Tyler Sheehy on Saturday as the Gophers claimed a 4-3 win over the Big Ten frontrunners for the second-straight night. Men’s Hockey: Badgers edge Gophers 4-3

MINNEAPOLIS – A 3M Arena at Mariucci record crowd was on hand for a back-and-forth battle between Gopher Hockey and Wisconsin as the Badgers edged Minnesota 4-3 on Saturday night in this weekend’s Border Battle finale. With an attendance of 10,686 fans on hand, the series finale broke a 14-year old facility record when 10,587 fans turned out to watch Minnesota and Wisconsin battle on Nov. 6, 2004. Lucia out as Gopher Hockey coach

University of Minnesota Athletics Director Mark Coyle and Head Coach Don Lucia today announced that Lucia will step down as Minnesota’s head men’s hockey coach, pending the approval of the University’s Board of Regents later this week. Coyle and Lucia have agreed that he will remain with Gopher Athletics as special assistant to the athletics director through June 30, 2019. “Gopher Hockey is not just a college hockey program, it’s a cultural institution in the state of Minnesota, built on more than 90 years of success and tradition. CLOUD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota men’s hockey team scored first against top-ranked St. Cloud State but could not capitalize on the early momentum, falling 5-2 at the National Hockey Center on Saturday night.
