MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota men’s basketball game scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Illinois will be postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the Golden Gopher program.   Minnesota and Illinois, along with the Big Ten Conference, will work together to identify possible rescheduling dates. Redshirt junior Marcus Carr has been named the Co Big Ten Player of the Week, announced today by the conference office. It marks Carr’s first Big Ten weekly award of his career and the first honor this season for Minnesota. The last weekly award dates back to Gabe Kalscheur and Daniel Oturu during the 2019-20 season. Carr produced his third 30-plus game this season and second in a row Friday against Iowa. The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team is currently No. 21 in the Associated Press poll released today. The poll marks the first time since Dec. 10, 2017 that the Golden Gophers have been ranked.  In all, nine Big Ten teams are currently ranked within the AP’s top 25. Wisconsin is ranked No. 6, followed by Iowa at No. 10. University of Minnesota head men’s basketball coach Richard Pitino announced Monday the addition of Jeff Mailhot to his staff as assistant coach. Mailhot has over a decade of college coaching experience, most recently serving in the same role at Iona College last season. “Jeff is a perfect fit for our program,” Pitino said. “He has advanced through all levels of basketball and has a proven reputation as a recruiter and hard worker.
