Big day brings big smiles at All-Star Series

It was All-Star weekend across the Twin Cities last weekend as the MYAS All-Star Series and the Rising Stars Showcase were held at multiple locations. In all, over 700 players from 51 communities took part in what has become a destination event for both players and coaches. “We had a ton of fun” said Ryan Rassett who coached the 15AA Central team at the Andover High School fields. “It was a great way to finish off the season and I could see all the coaches having fun with the kids. One year ago baseball fans everywhere had a big hole in their summer. For the first time since World War Two, and this time as a result of a pandemic, Major League Baseball did not hold its All-Star Game. Gopher State Tournament of Champions returns to Brooklyn Park; Delano wins 10AA title

The tournament featured 26 teams from across the Twin Cities and Minnesota. For the last 16 years the best of the best youth baseball teams in Minnesota have made the MYAS Gopher State Tournament of Champions one of the premier events in the Upper Midwest. Teams of players ages 9 to 15 will converge on 18 different locations across the state of Minnesota to decide state champions in three levels of play (AAA, AA and A). Twins outfielder Max Kepler, on a rehab stint with the St. Paul Saints, went 0 for 3 Tuesday night at CHS Field as the Saints lost to the Iowa Cubs 3-1. PitcherBryan Sammons didn’t expect to enter the game in the first inning for the St. Paul Saints. When he did, he kept his team in the game. The Saints had a couple of chances late, but couldn’t comeback on the Iowa Cubs, losing 3-1 on Tuesday night at CHS Field in front of 5,230. Twins place Garlick on injured list

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed outfielder Kyle Garlick on the 10-day Injured List with a sports hernia. Garlick has played in 36 games this season, hitting .232 (23-for-99) with eight doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI, 17 runs scored, six walks and a .745 OPS. To replace Garlick on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled outfielder Gilberto Celestino from Triple-A St. Paul. The 22-year-old made his major league debut on June 2 in Baltimore.
