Twins call up Turley; designate Rucinksi

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Nik Turley from Triple-A Rochester and will start today vs. the San Francisco Giants. To make room on the active roster, the Twins have optioned left-handed pitcher Randy Rosario to Double-A Chattanooga.

Turley, 27, was signed by the Twins as a minor league free agent October 21, 2016. The left-hander has split the 2017 season between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Chattanooga posting a 1-3 record with a 2.05 ERA (52.2 IP, 12 ER), 15 walks and 84 strikeouts. Originally selected in the 50th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by New York-AL, Turley has a career minor league record of 48-45 with a 3.50 ERA (748.1 IP, 291 ER), 335 walks and 729 strikeouts in 165 appearances (134 starts). Turley will wear uniform number 66 and make his major league debut this afternoon.

Rosario made his major league debut in relief June 2 at Los Angeles-AL and made two appearances for the Twins.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Turley, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Drew Rucinski for release or assignment.
