Photo Gallery: Gophers beat Illini

The Gopher football team kept their slim Bowl game hopes alive on Saturday as they got by Illinois 32-23 at TCF Bank Stadium. Minnesota closes out their regular season schedule next Saturday at home against Wisconsin in need of another win to become Bowl eligible. They are now 5-and-6 on the season. Joey King Earns Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Honors

Senior forward Joey King paced the Minnesota men’s basketball team’s offense in two wins to open the season, and for his efforts he was recognized Monday as the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week. He shares the award with Northwestern’s Alex Olah. For King, it is his first weekly conference honor and the first for the Gophers since Maurice Walker and Andre Hollins won the award in back-to-back weeks last December. King tallied back-to-back 20-point games in the Gophers home wins over UMKC and ULM this weekend, including a career-high 22-point effort against the Kangaroos. Adrian Peterson ran for 203 yards and Terrance Newman had a pair of interceptions as the Vikings beat the Raiders in Oakland 30-14 Sunday. The win was Minnesota’s fifth straight vaulting them into sole possession of first place in the NFC North,one game ahead of Green Bay. Steph Curry erupted for 46 points and Minnesota once again played without the injured Ricky Rubio as the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors beat the Timberwolves Thursday night 129-116 at Target Center. The Warriors are now a perfect 10-and-0 on the season while the Wolves dropped to 4-and-4. All four of Minnesota’s losses have come at home. Twins trade Aaron Hicks to Yankees

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired catcher John Ryan Murphy from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Aaron Hicks. The 24-year-old spent the entire 2015 season with the New York Yankees, hitting .277 (43-for-155) with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 14 RBI and 21 runs scored in 67 games. Murphy, who was drafted by the Yankees in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, is a career .267 (70-for-262) hitter with 14 doubles, four home runs and 24 RBI in 115 career major league games.
