Despite a mid-match hiccup, 26-year-old Paola Longoria of Mexico downed American Rhonda Rajsich 11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9. Longoria has now won the past five US Opens and six of the last eight. The 37-year-old Rajsich, a 4-time champion, made her eleventh finals appearance.
On the men’s side, you can set your watch to Kane Waselenchuk. The 33-year-old Texas resident captured his eighth straight US Open crown, defeating Mexico’s Daniel De La Rosa of Mexico 11-5, 11-8, 11-3. Waselenchuk has won eleven of the past thirteen Opens. The 22-year-old De La Rosa upset No. 1 seed Rocky Carson in Saturday’s semifinal to earn his first berth in the championship match.
The tournament has been held in Minneapolis since 2010 after taking place in Memphis from 1996-2009.
